Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston hosted its first service after the massacre on worshipers by Dylann Roof who gunned down 9 worshipers on Wednesday claiming he wanted to start a race war.
The seat of Rev Clementa Pinckney was empty at the front of the packed sanctuary because he was shot dead by Roof on that faithful day.Rev Pinckney should have been the pastor to lead the church service today being fathers day.
The Sunday morning worship was a celebration of faith, love, dignity, and courage it proved that Dylann Roof had failed in his devilish mission.
"The devil was trying to take charge but thanks be to God, the devil can't take control of your church,” said Rev Norvel Goff, who was taking place of his murdered friend. “The devil can't take control of your people."
“I want you to know that the doors of Mother Emanuel are open,” said Rev Goff. “It sends a message to every demon in hell and on earth.
“It’s been tough, it’s been rough, some have been downright angry, but through it all God has sustained us and encouraged us.
“Lots of people expected us to break out in a riot, but they didn’t know us, they don’t know our faith.”
